Quartzsite Police Chief Jeff Gilbert TERMINATED

At this morning's regular meeting of the Quartzsite Town Council, sitting members convened in executive session to discuss the contract of controversial Police Chief Jeff Gilbert. They reconvened and voted to terminate his contract without cause, and pay the provisions of his severance. A reported buy out of $116,000. Vice Mayor Jewitt abstained from the vote, because his step son Tim Ryder is the paid assistant to Chief Gilbert. Councilwoman Carol Kelley abstained, which counts as a "yes" vote. Remaining Council voted unanimously.

No mention was made of who will lead the Department as Interim Chief, or to begin advertising for a replacement, leaving many wondering whether council members thought the decision through, or if those things had been discussed in a Councilman Orgeron orchestrated secret meeting. It is anticipated that the Arizona Department of Public Safety may send someone, and Sheriff John Drum appears willing to negotiate an intergovernmental agreement to take over services permanently.

In other news, School Board Member Monica Timberlake was appointed to fill the council seat vacated by the resignation of Patricia Workman.

  1. "School Board Member Monica Timberlake was appointed to fill the council seat . . . "

Would this be the same school board associated with Councilman Orgeron?

    1. Yes. Same school board with test scores in three year decline. On the plus side, she was the only one who knew parliamentary procedure, so now when nasty Norma shrieks "point of order" maybe Monica will call for the question.

    2. So, what are the repercussions for her at school if she goes against Orgeron in council? Is Orgeron her boss or superior?

  3. It's about dam time. Jeff I know your reading this and I just want to say you WILL NOT be missed. You have proven yourself to be a poor leader just as you were a poor cop for Crit, you couldn't even pass the police academy there which is why they placed you into an admin position. Do all of us a favor and take your wife and yourself far far far away from AZ.

  4. Well well well how about that? This only took 3 years to do. Now my guess is Javier and his wife will retire soon and maybe they will take Jeffy's sweetie with them you know who she sgt is, and of course Jewitt's whinny little son Timmy who thinks Jeff walks on water. Tim you have not a clue what has gone on over the last 3 or more years. You have only heard Jeff's side of it.

    1. I can understand dissatisfaction with Gilbert but it is wrong to attack his friends and family. They had nothing to do with his problems.

  6. Now if this council was smart hahaha "IF" they would write the next chief's contract and NOT allow anyone applying to write their own contract. Talk about stupidity. Write a proper contract that won't bleed dry the town should you have to fire them.
