Police Chief Gilbert, Sgt. Garcia placed on leave today

According to Quartzsite Town Manager Alex Taft, in an official
statement from the Town of Quartzsite this afternoon:

This is in stark contradiction to a press release issued by Chief Gilbert earlier this month which stated:

For Immediate Release: Statement from Quartzsite
Chief of Police Jeff Gilbert on DPS Report #2011-027462

Quartzsite, Arizona - On August 13, 2012, I received a completed copy of the criminal investigation conducted by the AZ Department of Public Safety (DPS) against myself and Sgt. Xavier Frausto. This report included the "Turndown" notice declining the case by the AZ Attorney General's Office, dated July 12/13, 2012. The allegations and complaint was initiated by then Quartzsite Mayor Ed Foster.

The case was declined for the following reasons stated by the turndown report as: "Victim/Witness Credibility Problems"; "Inadequate Evidence of Intent"; "Inadequate Evidence of Corroboration"; and "No Reasonable Likelihood of Conviction".

This is the third criminal investigation I have been subjected to along with members of my department from false allegations and complaints made by then Mayor Ed Foster. I have been exonerated, along with the other members of the department each time. Sergeant Xavier Frausto has served this community for nearly twenty years with his complete dedication to the community.

I have documented evidence that Ed Foster participated with another party and submitted a fabricated and forged letter to DPS in 2010 in an attempt to lend credibility to the first of his false allegations and complaints. While I brought this matter to the attention of DPS, to my knowledge they declined any further investigation of the incident.

Ed Foster, along with others, continues to this day in his attempt to discredit, and have me criminally charged, as the Chief of Police for the Quartzsite Police Department. His latest false allegations and complaints created an investigation and finding period that lasted nearly fourteen months resulting in an unknown loss and waste of the tax payer's dollar, not to mention the undue hardship that was created to the community, the Town, the Department, Sgt. Frausto, myself and our families.

On behalf of the Quartzsite Police Department, myself and all those affected, I wish to thank the Town and community members of Quartzsite that have provided their continued support and stood behind us over the course of these false allegations and complaints.

I will continue with my dedication to the Town of Quartzsite as Chief of Police, to serve and protect and to provide the best possible police services to the community. Again, I wish to thank everyone for their support.

Jeff Gilbert
Chief of Police
Quartzsite Police Department

  1. What a perfect time. Get fired while his buddy Schwab could be our sheriff. If this happens you have not seen the last for Dilbert.

  2. Today, the Chief Criminal Gilbert is placed on leave; tomorrow in jail. But, one thing is for sure, in a few years from now, he'll be rotting in Hell.

Thanks for all the corruption, there, Big Cheese, Gilbert. You talk about hardship? How about all the honest police officers you sacked two years ago. Cry me a river, then jump in it and drown.

    Good riddance.

  3. As the wind gets to blowing, we cover up this and rap that, hoping to control and preserve our goods and way of life. But so often we neglect to think about the strength or constantly the cunning craft and ability of the wind.
People were beginning to lose their hope in this hard drive for change. All the prayer and faith was looking like it was unheard.
But now we can see the prayers prayed were heard. And the frustration and fear felt because of the thought that the citizens would be left to illegal acts carried out by those who would have no one to stop them.
I praise God for being just, and I thank Him for putting in place to care for those who are in danger and can not protect themselves.
As the law enforcement do their job, I pray that the state of Arizona and the United States make it clear there is justice for all in our great Country. Amen.

  4. Will Alex Taft be placed on administrative leave when Chief Gilbert is found guilty of illegal acts?
And what about the others? Will they also be arrested and put in jail?
Will all of those found guilty of corruption be made to return money missing, prosecuted and put in prison?

  5. This just got intersting. Desert Messenger is just reporting special council meeting called by Orgeron, Kelly, and Crooks. Possible action against Ms. Taft and possible reinstatement of Chief Gilbert. So did Taft throw Gilbert under the bus to cleanse her wrongdoing? Must be really serious that they would call a Saturday meeting rather than just amend the agenda of the Monday regular meeting. I can't wait to find out, but expecting most of the juicy stuff to be in executive session.

  6. There are whispers among those with good sources that say what this Admin Leave is all about. It has nothing to do with Foster, or Jones, or Roth, or the QPOA, or anything that's happened over the past few years. This is something new, doesn't involve anyone on either side of the fued, and is potentially criminal. Read between the lines and see that both Gilbert and Garcia were placed on leave at the same time. Which means it likely involved those two, and those two only. Can't say to much for risk of outing the source, but its something completely new that no one outside knows yet.

Think about this as a metaphor to the situation. Despite all the criminal activity he was involved in, it was tax evasion that took Al Capone down.
